Episode 7: Legend (1985)

Welcome Back to Film Haven Reviews! This week we are starting a whole new theme: ill-Fated Sword and Scorery! 80s Sword and Sorcery movies that had abysmally low critical ratings but comparitively high userscores. I'm going to be taking a look at these next three films and trying to figure out where the disparity is coming from, and what it is a that makes these films so seemingly enjoyable, while also being universially panned by critics. To start us off we are taking a look at the box office disaster that is Ridley Scott's Legend (1985). This film felt like a fever dream of fantasy story elements that kept me entertained, if not thoroughly confused by its direction for the entire runtime. It was apparently a 2 hr. 30 min. movie that was cut down to 90 minutes and that is exactly what it feels like. I gave it a 6.5 for having incredible practical effects and set design, and for being very entertaining.
