Episode 7: "Never let a crisis go to waste"

from Philosophical Gathering of the Community · host philosophicalgathering

In the second month of global pandemic, a wave of the dispossessed tries to make due. The government flexes its muscles to help the rich and big business, but not the dispossessed. In this episode we discuss the government’s response, and the people’s response, to the health crisis so far. We ask: what should our demands be? How can we get where we want to go? And who might lead us in the right or wrong direction? Five demands (from 5demands.global): Free healthcare No work No debt Free the prisoners Homes for all Five red flags to watch out for mis-leaders: Says we need to wait for people in power to solve the problem. Funded by / working for people who have a vested interest in things not changing for the better (for us, the dispossessed) Advocates for solutions that have been tried and failed, over and over again through history. People who won’t name an enemy, and/or blur the lines between classes (the owning class vs. the dispossessed) Says we can’t have good things or systemic changes. The more good something is, or the more it challenges the system, the more we cannot have it.
