Episode 7, “When they belong, they can learn”: exploring relationships through an Indigenous lens

In the Season 1 finale of TEACHful, Dwight Powless and Dr. Linda Manning talk about how relationships, responsibility, culture, and learning can help us better understand ourselves and one another. Dwight Powless is a Mohawk from Six Nations, retired Indigenous Relations Manager at Canada Post, and former community liaison resource at Algonquin College. Linda Manning is an intercultural economics professor and program impact evaluator with a 30-year post-secondary teaching career (including a stint at Algonquin College). Their long-standing friendship and professional partnership models the importance of relationships and the ability to learn from one another across different perspectives, something they show in their book, A Path Forward, Mikan E'niigaanimok: Continuous Improvement Through an Indigenous Lens. It also speaks to how educators can respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action – how to work respectfully across different worldviews and ways of knowing.
