QR codes are used to initiate many of these interactions especially within the point of sale (POS) domain. When there isn't a legacy payment infrastructure in place, software is easier, and cheaper, to deploy than the hardware-reliant approaches used for card-based transactions. To serve its millions of accountholders traveling around the world, Alipay is building out its acceptance footprint.
