02/08/13 - On "Hot Leads Cold Cases" this week Nancy du Tertre interviews mathematician James Stein, PhD, author of a new book "The Paranormal Equation:A New Scientific Perspective on Remote Viewing, Clairvoyance, and Other Inexplicable Phenomena." Jim, a magna cum laude graduate of Yale University with a specialty in mathematics and physics, and a masters and PhD degreefrom the University of California at Berkeley, talks to Nancy about the possibility that certain "paranormal" experiences might be provable (or not) in terms of science or math. Jim believes, for instance, there are too many problems in proving precognition or prophesy because it is often conditional upon certain actions being taken (what happens if they aren't taken and nothing happens?)and thus the prediction can never be proven to have been right or wrong. By contrast, he believes remote viewing (a form of clairvoyance with strict protocols) might have some possible explanations. Jim appears to be skeptical in the sense of having an open mind but governed by the laws of science.
