Episode 73: It's Not Your America with Carla Marie Davis

We’re back with an interview with Carla Marie Davis, New York City political content creator and organizer. Carla describes her journey from fashion into local politics, creating a practice of self-care amidst the capitalist system taking a toll on physical and mental health, and the role of social media in engaging the community. She tells us why she is drawn to get involved in local politics and why we can’t make politicians into celebrities and the importance and feasibility of holding them accountable. Dimez recounts their firsthand experience of a certain politician's appearance at pride marches this past month. We talk about staying up to date with politics, Zohran Mamdani’s campaign in the democratic primary, the ICE crisis, and the intersections of anti-Blackness and immigration. We also talk about art, the role of culture in collective action, and the exploitation of art by capitalism - struggling to survive without compromising on values, and so much more.
