Episode 73: NYC Parkways

from Everything is a Primary Source · host Eric Salmonsen

"Moses- Deliver Us": NYC Parkways with Chance KellyNew York City commuters don’t have a lot of time to dwell on the history of the roads they use each day to get to and from work and home, but behind each paved throughfare is a story about the past waiting to be told. You already know actor Chance Kelly from his roles in Generation Kill, Aquarius, and one of my favorites, Fringe, but he’s also the host of the Podcast Island, a program dedicated to the history and people of Manhattan and the greater New York City area.Chance joined me recently to take an analytical look at the Bronx and the Hutchinson River Parkways which course through Westchester County towards the city and FDR Drive once one is in Manhattan.   When dissected, each of these roadways reveals a tremendous amount of clues about many different time periods in the region’s history.
