Episode 73 - St. Vincent

Bill Murray is the irascible title character, a mean, selfish jerk who (wait for it) has a heart of gold. He starts to take an interest in the lonely boy-next-door, Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) who is bullied at school and is generally down in spirits.  Oliver's mother, Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) is surprisingly laissez-faire about her son disappearing for hours at a time with Vin. When she finds out the two of them have been going to the horse track she barely simmers.  The unlikely friendship between Vin and Oliver is nothing special and as Andrew points out in this episode, the film regards itself with a greater importance than it actually deserves.  Eloquent, no?  The film is chock full of great actors, including Naomi Watts, and how about Terrence Howard in a bizarrely brief role??  "St. Vincent" fashions itself a feel-good-movie, but Andrew and Phil found it a little more maudlin than that.  Bill Murray plays his role well, but one solid performance does not a good movie make.  Check out this latest episode, folks.
