Why would anyone have a religious system and not want God? Because man is by nature religious. He must worship something. But if he worships the true God Yahweh, it means he has to change his life. It means he has to clean up, it means he has to straighten up what is wrong, it means he has to deal with himself. But if man can recreate a God in his own image, there is nothing to deal with. When he looks in the mirror, he sees himself and he measures up, but when he looks into the mirror of the word of God, when he looks at the heart of God, he doesn't see a reflection of himself, he sees Yahweh's image, He sees Yahweh's character, he sees Yahweh's holiness, he sees Yahweh's righteousness, and then something is required of him if he is going to respond to what he sees. - F Nolan Ball from his series titled "Yahweh's Anointed".
