Episode #76: “Disappearing Doctors” Featuring Artist Jeremy Rosario Maldonado

In this deeply moving episode, Jeremy Rosario Maldonado shares his work initiative with FCB Health NY speaking to his creation, “The Disposables,” a powerful art exhibition calling attention to physicians lost to suicide. The portraits use donated medical supplies to construct images of doctors who died by suicide, using the items they would have used to practice medicine. The very same tools used to help patients heal. Jeremy discusses how art has the power to raise awareness about an epidemic historically so silent that many medical families and physicians themselves have been unaware of its severity. He shares that this campaign for physician mental health addresses the stigma, that prevents many medical professionals from seeking help when they need it. It has allowed numerous organizations to combine their efforts. We specifically spotlight the work of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation. Dr. Lorna Breen is one of the physicians whose portrait is featured in the exhibit, and I have become an Ambassador for the Foundation.
