Sometimes, however, we just don’t want to do what we’re told. Peter says - do it to honor the Lord. How do you handle authority figures, good or bad?vs 15 - God’s desire is that we live with such honor that the things people say about us fall flat because there is no truth in them. When we hear that someone is talking about us, our minds race, thinking about the things we’ve said and done that could come out. Peter says - find freedom, live above that, live with honor.vs 16 - You’re free and yet you’re a slave? God’s love set us free from our sin; but if our love for Him is sincere, then our commitment will be to live in honor to Himvs 17 - Respect, love, fear (used in the sense of honor & respect) These are things that build healthy relationships. In a culture that wants these things from others, but doesn’t value these virtues for themselves, Peter calls us to set the example. What challenges do these verses present to you?Questions for verses 18-25Vs 18-19 - The word “slaves” in their culture would include “boss” in ours. How do you handle a bad boss, a bad professor, or coach?God is pleased when we endure unjust treatment. What are some situations that could apply to you?vs 20 - It’s easy to justify our own mistakes. To want others to treat us according to our intentions, instead of our actions. There’s no room to be upset with the results of our actions. What are some examples: late homework, forgot to call, lied about something, didn’t show up for work or class, ect…How do you handle those situations? Do you own it?vs 21-25 - God is not asking us to do something He wouldn’t, didn’t do. Jesus is our example for all of this. Most of us are just trying to not get caught for what we’re doing wrong. Are you willing to do good even if you have to suffer for it?What does Jesus’ example inspire you to do?Thank you for listening to the One Loud Voice podcast.
