Perhaps no type of hunting is under fire more than the pursuit of felines in modern society. Disney is as much to blame for the anthropomorphism of mega fauna predators as any outlet, but that doesn’t change the current state of affairs for those of us who love to hunt cats and our passion for the dogs that make it possible in many instances. Hunting with hounds has become the low hanging fruit for the anti hunting movement. On today’s show I’m joined by Cat Hunter Magazine founder Adam Shields. We take a look at the history and tradition of cat hunting culture both domestically and globally. You’ll hear tales of man eating tigers and leopards, aristocrats training cheetahs to hunt down wild game for them, hounds chasing jaguars in the jungle and much more. The pursuit of big cats is a consistent theme throughout human history, much of it brought on by necessity (in the case of scores of man eaters) and rites of passage in other cultures. Adam shares why he founded Cat Hunter and what his goals are as far as protecting the future of this amazing and thrilling pastime. Of course, there’s also the scientific wildlife management component that one must consider when it comes to managing our mega fauna felines so that they can continue to thrive in ever shrinking habitats. Awesome stuff if you’re a cat hunter yourself or just a hunter who likes to soak in tradition.
