Dr. Lavretsky is a professor at UTEP where his research focuses on genetics research of ducks in North America and Mike Brasher is the Senior Waterfowl Scientist at Ducks Unlimited.  DU and UTEP have teamed up to launch duckDNA, a revolutionary research program that will transform waterfowl hunters into waterfowl scientist. The duckDNA project is a new citizen science initiative launched by Ducks Unlimited and the University of Texas at El Paso. 300 hunters will be selected to collect a tissue sample from harvested ducks for genetic analysis.
