He was a combat medic (Hospital Corpsman) in the United States Navy from 1999-2004, and served in Iraq from the beginning of the 2003 invasion there. This experience would go on to redefine his understanding of geopolitics, the place of war and violence in the development of the human species, and his approach to others and himself."
