Episode 8 — Leviticus 8: Washed, Dressed, Anointed
from As It Is Written Hosted by Athena Vetterick
Leviticus 8, verse by verse. Ordination day — the first time the book's instructions are actually carried out, in front of the whole congregation. Moses washes Aaron and his sons; the dressing piece by piece, ending with the golden plate, 'Holy to the LORD'; the anointing of the tabernacle, the altar with seven sprinklings, and Aaron himself; the sin offering that purifies the altar, the burnt ram, and the ram of ordination — blood on right ear, thumb, and big toe, hands filled and waved. Seven days at the entrance, 'so that you do not die.' Exegesis style: original meanings, the culture of the first hearers, explained from the ground up.
