Episode 8 Pragna Patel on Her Way to FiliA2025

from Gorgon Posse of Medusa Rising · host Medusa Rising

Pragna Patel is an icon of the UK feminist movement, working in immigrant rights and violence and against women and girls. She’s the founder of Project Resist and a founding member of the Southall Black Sisters. Esmée interviewed Pragna for the keepsake magazine profiling conference speakers for this 10th anniversary gathering at FiLiA. This episode is the whole, we think important, conversation shared here because the magazine edit had to be around 1200 words. We talked about threats to immigrants and migrant people, the strengthening global far right movement, a fractured left that needs to focus on issues and values rather than identity, the joy and energy of FiLiA2025. Pragna reflects on the conference as a chance for feminists to sharpen each other's skills and beliefs, to seek alignments in our differences including generational ones. Feminists really can do a better job of  welcoming the next generation of feminists. She shares a little of how she learned to be the effective activists that she has been, about how none of us knew exactly or much of ‘how to do this’ when we started. Learning on the job is feminist tradition. We talked about feminists taking positions on the far right, on matters of war and genocide, how to have a feminist position on travesties like the destruction and genocide of Gaza because these positions help us build solidarity across differences. Pragna hopes feminists will find a deeper principled solidarity.    #MVAWG #Imigration #Immigrants #GlobalWomen #FarRight   FiLiA2025 happens in Brighton, UK in October.
