Episode 8 | Zikr as a way to overcome the mind, nafsu and syaitan

from Zikr 101 (2024 Ramadan series) · host Khwaja Ehsanullah Shah

“Our heart is like a fertile soil that is able to absorb the springs of zikir” – Khwaja Ehsanullah Shah Zikr allows us to become more aware of the four enemies (ego, nafsu, love of the world, and shaitan) that challenge us daily. Zikr allows us to enter a state of reflection, refocusing us back to our daily intention: "to be a humble servant of Allah." In this sharing, Khwaja Ehsanullah Shah expands on how shaitan enters through different pathways (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hands, feet, genitals), and causes us to be inclined to do sins. These sins accumulate black spots on our hearts, plunging us into darkness. How does zikrullah help with this? Zikr creates the spark that helps to keep our hearts alive, scraping out the dark spots and polishing it – ultimately allowing us to attain peace in our hearts (“ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوۡبُ “).
