from Street Cop Podcast · host Street Cop Training

On today's episode, Dennis speaks with Survivor, Steve Cantara. December 31, 2020, is a day that changed the life of Officer Steve Cantara forever. While working third shift, Officer Cantara was assisting the NCSHP by blocking a lane of travel in his marked police car, due to an accident on Interstate I-85. As Officer Cantara was sitting in his police car, with all emergency lights on, a drunk driver ran into the rear of his patrol vehicle, completely destroying the car. It was a horrific collision and Officer Cantara was lucky to survive it. As a result of this terrible crash, Steve suffered significant internal injuries. Due to the severity of the internal injuries, he battles daily to return to the person he was before the accident. As a result of the severity of his injuries from this horrific crash, he will, unfortunately, never be able to return to active duty. Today, Steve shares his story of the incident that unfolded, his battle with recovery both physically and mentally, the struggle of having to medically retire and Dennis shares his advice to Steve and all survivors on how to get help and move forward in life.
