Episode 82 | On Being A Therapist with ADHD with Taira Burns, LPC
from Psych Talk · host Dr. Jessica Rabon
In today's episode of Psych Talk, I speak with Taira Burns, a licensed professional counselor in Tennessee. Taira is a therapist with ADHD who speaks on her social media platforms about being a therapist with ADHD. Taira shares her journey with ADHD, particularly about being diagnosed as an adult yet being able to reflect on all her symptoms as a child and teen. We discuss the benefits and difficulties of being a therapist with ADHD and have a discussion around the misconception that having a mental health diagnosis prevents someone from being able to go into the field. Taira also happens to be married to a therapist with ADHD as well and she discusses the challenges of having a partner with ADHD and how presentations of ADHD can be very different in individuals. Further, Taira provides words of encouragement for those who have ADHD, particularly those who may want to seek a career in mental health.
