Episode 82: RESILIENCE SKILLS THAT EVERYONE CAN LEARN

from The Survivor's Guide to Life · host Peter M. Bernstein, Phd

Resilience isn't a talent the lucky few are born with. Everyone who goes through adversity can become more resilient if they hold on to hope and a willingness to learn new skills. Difficult times - when life feels out of our control - call on us to feel our pain and loss and face our limitations. If we don't let destructive emotions, such as anger, fear, and sadness take over we can make positive choices to address our difficult situation. We can learn to keep a positive, realistic attitude, stay true to our personal values, find purpose and meaning in something bigger than ourselves, and reach out to others. We can recognize and accept what we can't change and act to change those things we can. We can lean for support on others who play an important role in our lives.
