Episode #82: "Worth The Chance" featuring Jarad Nava

from STREET GOSPEL PODCAST · host Street Gospel Podcast

Jarad Nava was featured on the Netflix documentary "They Call Us Monsters". The doc centered around incarcerated youth facing life sentences as minors. In 2012, at the age of 17, Jarad was charged with four counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and possession of a short-barreled shotgun. After declining a plea deal of a 30-year prison term he stood trial as an adult, which the state of California allows for 16 and 17 year old's, and faced over 200 years in prison. On February 7th 2014 Jarad was convicted of four counts of attempted murder, and 3 months later sentenced to 162 years in prison. After taking full responsibility for his actions, Jarad settled into a life knowing he would never go home again. In prison he learned to keep his head down and began to work on his being, taking every self help class he could and finding Christ along the way. Through Gods mercy, the state of California parole board, his acceptance of all responsibility and luck, Jarad was released after only 8 years. This podcast tells the story of a lost young man, who found purpose in prison through Christ, and who was given a second chance not only for freedom but to make his life worth something. It also will challenge your thinking on the justice system, forgiveness, the ultimate judge, fairness, culprits and victims.
