Part-two of this two-part story ends with this episode, ‘The Champions Portion’. Although one of the most famous heroes of Irish Myth, Cúchulainn was not always granted the title of Ulsters Champion. To be a champion of the people took more than sheer strength and brilliance, you had to be the champion of the people, loyal and true to your word in every way. Cúchulainn’s championship is contested by his fierce cousin Conal Cearnach, the Battle Winer, and the well-meaning, (but often in the way) Lóegaire Búadach, the victorious. These two champions think they ought to be names the champion of Ulster. Despite failing miserably at overcoming Cúchulainn in any of the series of tests that they face to come up with a winner, the two men stay stubbornly defiant.
