Episode 86 - Seek Discomfort: The Path to Balancing Dreams and Distance with Loyd Doron

Storytelling has always been part of human nature. The use of stories has been used to capture the imagination, to highlight special topics and also used to entertain. Our guest this week has found his passion for storytelling through the use of the camera. Loyd grew up in a small town on a small island in the Philippines, it was there that his fascination for storytelling was ignited. Through simple school projects he realised the power that a simple smart phone can have to tell a story. Loyd's life changed dramatically when he did not get a highly sought after scholarship. In this episode we speak about how this took him out of his comfort zone, how he created a movie that won an award that saw him visit New Zealand even though his mum was apprehensive. We speak about the reality of being in a new place and not knowing anyone. We speak about his passion for sharing his journey which is a journey we all grow through at some point in our lives. We speak about the impact he is making as a filmmaker and his growth on social media platforms.
