Tina Ahearn currently living in The Villages, Florida but originally from St. Louis, Missouri. She is a retired registered nurse with a BSN of 38 years from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St Louis at the Washington University Medical school campus. She is married to her husband John of 48 years, she’s a mother of 2, a son living in NY and a daughter & son-in-law living in Portland , Oregon with two very active grandsons there.Since retiring and relocating to Florida in 2011, Tina became a master gardener through theUniversity of Florida in 2012 and remains active as a volunteer at plant clinics, educational programs and plant sales which support the Sumter County Master Gardeners of Central Florida. Additionally, since 2013 she is a water aerobics instructor 2-3 days a week at the local recreation centers in The Villages. She plays golf and enjoys going to deep water aerobics classes with a new passion of cardio drumming workouts 2-3 times a week. She is also active within her neighborhood as the AED- Neighbors Helping Neighbors program coordinator.In September 2023, Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine, annual mammogram then followed by a right breast biopsy which started her journey of breast cancer treatment, surgery and radiation therapy. She had 2 tumors which were HER2 +.Tina is grateful to be back to her normal routines of activity and leisure time but listens to her body when it’s time to slow down and rest. When her activity level increased and she could resume her normal fitness routines, she knew she had climbed her mountain and was now on an easier path forward. She credits her husband and loving family & friends for their supportive care and encouragement throughout her cancer journey. Her nickname as a child was “Pollyanna” because of this character’s optimistic attitude & cheerful disposition which Tina’s parents said she always had. This had been her way to cope with life’s difficulties, stresses, & sorrows even throughout her cancer journey. In May, Tina completed the American Cancer Society swim challenge to swim 5 miles in a month.
