🇬🇧 Episode 9 - Art School Girlfriend, a Welsh electronic music producer

from Européennes - Femmes d'Europe · host Estelle BF

🇬🇧 Episode in English 🇬🇧 Polly Mackey, aka Art School Girlfriend, grew up in a small Welsh town, which she describes as "an amazing little hub of creativity". From karaoke in her parents' living room, to rehearsals with her first band, not forgetting pub gigs, Polly has always been immersed in music. After some experience in a band, in which she sang and played guitar, Polly moved to England by the sea. There, she decided to devote herself to the music that had always attracted her: electronic music! It was in her bedroom that Art School Girlfriend was born. Her music is inspired by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (world-famous for their soundtrack in the film "Project X") and the Pixies. After several EPs, Polly released her first album; an album she produced following a heartbreaking breakup, and which brilliantly reflects what it feels like to be struck by heartbreak. In 2023, she released "Soft Landing", an album whose lyrics evoke joy and the present moment, while favoring melancholy melodies. ⏸️ Listening to Art School Girlfriend is like pressing the world button on pause. So, we explored her relationship with melancholy and calm, talked about her place as a woman in the music business, shared memories of her childhood and adolescence, and discussed the influence of her sexuality on her music. Polly is calm, and as she says, it's this calm that characterizes her. So let's press play and... pause. ⏸️Enjoy! 🎧I met Polly as part of theLes Créatives festival in Geneva and her concert at Le Groove. ⭐To follow Art School Girlfriend : 🎶 Spotify📷Instagram📱FacebookTo follow the podcast: 💌 Newsletter 📷 Instagram📱 Facebook  Hébergé par Ausha.
