Episode 9 - Gravity
from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil
"Gravity" is, as you must know by this point, is a blockbuster sci-fi movie starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Not your average run of the mill popcorn flick, Alfonso Cuaron's visionary film is also a contender for Best Picture at the Oscars. Not only that, but Mr. Cuaron is a serious heavyweight for the Best Director award, which he picked up at the Golden Globes. The plot of "Gravity" is simple. A couple of astronauts get stranded from their spaceship while floating about outside. After a heinous turn of events, Bullock finds herself fighting for her life in an attempt to return to Earth. Mr. Cuaron is being heralded for a 12 and a half minute opening shot. A little easier to attain such a lengthy fluid master by the use of technology these days...Orson Welles could have never stitched together multiple shots to create the beginning of "Touch Evil", let me tell you. No doubt a lot of pre-production went into creating the special effects for "Gravity" and Phil and Andrew will weigh in on the film's overall merit. Can you hear us, Major Tom?
