Episode 9 - New York Islanders; Calypso Hockey - The Rawle Cox Interview

The New York Islanders are a hockey club based on the East Coast of the USA. Having been around for close to five decades, the club was originally founded and organised by those from the Caribbean Islands - an influence which still drives the club today. In the eighth series of the Half Court Press Podcast we find out more about the Calypso hockey that is and has been played over the years by the New York Islanders from those involved. Tao MacLeod talks to a variety of hockey personalities who have coached, played for and generally been a part of the West Indian hockey community in New York. Rawle Cox is a well known figure within the New York Islanders community, having played for the club after the amalgamation in 1997, as well as both the Islanders and New York Hockey Clubs prior to that. Rawle is an accomplished hockey player having competed in the Pan American Games, as well as the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics for the USA National Team. Originally hailing from the twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, he and his family moved to New York in 1960’s, after which he became an American citizen. In this interview he talks about his hockey experiences over the years.
