Episode 9: Progesterone in Perimenopause: What’s Happening and How to Help
from Empowered Perimenopause With Francesca Liparoti · host Francesca Liparoti
As we move into perimenopause, progesterone is the first of the two ovarian hormones to start to shift. Changes in oestrogen come a little bit later. As progesterone starts to decline anywhere from mid-late 30s or early 40s, you might notice the consequences of this by way of sleep troubles, anxiety, feeling less resilient, changes to cognition, new or worse PMS, heavy periods, and shorter cycles. The decline in progesterone is really important part of perimenopause physiology to understand (all of it is!). Once we understand, we can start to learn the things we can do to support it and help minimise symptoms! In this episode I explain what progesterone actually is, what it does and why it's so important, how we make it, why it declines, and to support it.
