Episode 9 - Sold Out Shows, 27 Rats & a Christopher Walken Impression | See Play Perform

from The See Play Perform Podcast · host seeplayperformtvct

The season finale is here, and we are going OUT! With a bang, a burp, and a very dramatic pumpkin spice commercial. Host Noah Moody sits down with the powerhouse team behind TVCT's recent production of High School Musical Junior: co-directors JeNeale and Katey, plus stage manager Hannah. They recap a sold-out run (every. single. night.), the cast that brought tears on closing night, and the kids who loved the experience so much they immediately signed up for more shows. Before getting into the good stuff, Noah reads through everyone's questionnaire answers and nearly creates a fake dating profile out of them. We hear about a castle in Germany, a deep and personal hatred of monkeys, and the medical condition that meant Katey went 39 years without ever burping. Also: a $5 Humane Society rat deal that turned into 27 rats. We will say no more. You must listen. Then we get into the real theater talk - what directors actually look for in auditions, how to recover when something goes sideways mid-performance, the art of song selection (and which songs might be a little too played out), and why commitment beats perfection every time. We close the season the only way we know how: The Dramatic Readings Game. Our guests tackle voice acting commercial scripts in surprise character voices, including a game show host who is absolutely not okay on the inside, a very enthusiastic Frenchman in need of a haircut, Christopher Walken selling credit card rewards, and a royal queen with a very special relationship with the word "the." We're taking a short break after this one, but we'll be back with more students, more stories, and more mischief from Treasure Valley Children's Theater.
