Episode 9: The Effects of Disordered Eating on a Family and the Road to Lifelong Healing
from No Boundaries: Black Girl Magic Edition with Anousha Nzume · host Anousha Nzume
Disordered eating is such a nuanced topic, especially when your family can see how it’s affecting you and when you can see how it’s affecting them. On top of that, there’s society’s idea of what is healthy and beautiful, and usually, it means being as thin as possible. So while you know your behaviors are hurting you, someone may think you’re doing what’s right for you. We’ve had friends and family members encourage dieting and disordered eating, thinking they were doing the right thing when they’re really causing more harm than good. This is why we encourage you to seek help and start the healing process. It's up to you to take the first step. We are not medical professionals, so take what we say with a grain of salt. But we hope that by sharing our experiences, we can help at least one person who’s watching take the first step to healing. Whether that be by reading the books we recommended, booking an appointment with a doctor, or just feeling safe in this moment with us. In this week’s episode, your hosts Anousha and Lulu are discussing how an eating disorder affects their family and how they’ve started to heal. It has been a rough battle for everyone involved, but with in-depth research and unrelenting tenacity, your favorite podcast family is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tune in for resources, real-life experiences, and more on the No Boundaries podcast. Enjoy!
