Episode 90: Episode 90: Choice To Follow Jesus

from Oasis of Hope · host Oasis of Hope

Scripture Reference: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (Psalm 1: 1-6, KJV) Followers of Christ all around the world are currently setting their gaze towards Pentecost. This is the seventh Sunday (June 8, 2025) after Easter (April 20, 2025) that believers celebrate the blessing of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Christ as explained in the Book of Acts 2: 1-31. After the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the disciples committed a major amount of their time in the Word of God. Their Savior, Teacher and Master was no longer with them physically. The disciples searched the Word of God for their daily guidance and sustenance of their faith in God. The Word of God became their plumbline. In this episode 90 of Oasis of Hope podcast, Drs. Johnson and Feyi Obamehinti discuss the question about celebrity Christianity. As followers of Christ, the Bible is our plumbline for all areas of life. Exodus 20:3-5 states God’s heart and will about who we worship, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”  Each follower of Christ must make a choice to live for God alone and cultivate the desire to be fully committed to God’s Word, His will, His ways, His thoughts, and His life. Most importantly, we encourage you to daily feed your spirit and soul with the powerful infallible Word of God.
