Episode 93 - An abundance of love: The horrible things that happen in life, make you love who you are with Inaki Cepeda
from Baskets Of Knowledge · host Prajesh Chhanabhai; Tane Whitehead
Trigger warning. In this weeks episode we speak about Cancer, Self Harm, Depression, Mental Health. Please avoid this episode if any of these topics may have a detrimental effect on you. Our guest this week started off our conversation with the line "and lots has happened in my life". This was a fantastic premise to this really wonderful, open, honest and emotive conversation. Moving to New Zealand from Uruguay, Inaki has had the challenge but also the advantage of growing up traversing two very different cultures. Living in a small community outside of Christchurch would soon become an integral part of his life when Inaki was diagnosed with cancer as a 13 year old. This changed the trajectory of Inaki and his family's life. Inaki speaks openly about the day he was given his diagnosis and gives us an in depth account about the 3 years he went through his treatment. Lots of love, love of support, lots of emotion shared. We speak about how Inaki has used the last three years to give back to an organisation that has become close to his heart, Shave for a Cure. Our conversation also shifts as we talk about the mental toll that has taken place in his life. Inaki openly speaks about his challenges this year around his mental well being. He speaks about how it all started unravelling for him, BUT we touch on a very important moment for him. The moment being talking to his friends about what he was going through and how his friends essentially have helped Inaki to get to where he is now. A power packed episode, with a fantastic human being. Lets us know what really stood out for you in the comments.
