Episode 98 – Hannah Courtney, Plus-Size Running
from I Can Do Anything Podcast · host Robyn Steckel
Hannah Courtney, a plus‑size runner and book lover whose Instagram Reel about progressing from a 20‑minute mile to a 17‑minute mile unexpectedly went viral. Our conversation was a deep, honest exploration of running, body confidence, training, gear, community, and personal growth. Hannah began walking in June and running in July of this year, starting with 26–28 minute miles and only 30‑second run intervals. She has lost weight with the help of a GLP‑1 medication, improved mobility, and consistent movement. Her viral Reel showed her pace progression, which resonated with many plus‑size runners who rarely see themselves represented. Hannah and I discussed how we'll train more intentionally, focusing on our endurance, and pacing. I mentioned how important strength training is for ladies in general and to support running and prevent injury. We both commented on the importance of properly fitted running shoes, often 1–2 sizes larger, to prevent pain and toenail issues. We both emphasized the importance of consistency, not perfection. On race day it's you vs. you, not about placement. We strived to get across that age doesn't matter. Start where you are to find movement that speaks to you, treat your body with kindness, and build habits that support your goals.
