Episode 98: Homeopathy for your Plants and Food Production with Homeopath Shaz

Can the same homeopathic remedies people keep at home also be used in the garden? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with Homeopath Shaz about her passion for growing fruit and vegetables and the ways she experiments with homeopathy in her garden. From germinating seeds to dealing with aphids, snails and struggling plants, Shaz shares an entirely different side of homeopathy. Growing Food in a City Garden Shaz has transformed her concrete city garden into a productive growing space with two greenhouses, containers, tubs and large barrels. She grows tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, apples, pears, cherries, blueberries, grapes and even kiwi and loofah plants. For Shaz, growing from seed is part of the enjoyment because every season becomes an opportunity to experiment and learn. Homeopathy From the Seed Stage Shaz says she begins using homeopathy before seeds are even planted. She describes soaking or moistening seeds with diluted preparations containing remedies such as Silica and Thuja before germination. The remedies she uses for plants are the same homeopathic preparations traditionally used for people. Homeopathy for Garden Pests One of Shaz's favourite areas is experimenting with homeopathy as an alternative approach to garden pests. She discusses Coccinella in relation to aphids and Helix tosta for snails, as well as remedies such as Petroleum and Thuja for other plant problems. These are Shaz's gardening practices and observations. Homeopathic preparations have not been reliably established as effective methods of pest control. Looking at the Whole Plant Shaz approaches a struggling plant in much the same way she approaches homeopathic case taking. Rather than focusing on one damaged leaf, she looks at the whole environment. Is the soil healthy? Has the weather changed? Is the plant waterlogged? Has it been too dry? Does it prefer shade or sunlight? Are the roots damaged or restricted? Remedies Shaz Uses in Her Garden Shaz also discusses Calc carb for plants that appear slower or weaker than others, Phosphorus with tomatoes and peppers, Silica for weaker plants, Sulphur for powdery mildew and Aconite when plants appear affected following a sudden weather change. These uses come from her personal homeopathic gardening approach rather than established horticultural treatment protocols.
