Episode 98 - Memories of Filming the Iconic "Saturday Night Fever" With Actor Paul Pape - Part 2

During the second half of Tony's captivating conversation with actor Paul Pape he shares some amusing insights into how the sex scene in the car for “Saturday Night Fever” was created. He explains how the film company closed the entire top level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to traffic so they could film all the bridge scenes over a couple of days. He recounts how the scene where they scare Donna Pescow by pretending to fall off the bridge was filmed, as well as his memories of working with choreographer Lester Wilson on the various disco dance sequences. He also mentions that while he wasn’t the best dancer, his athletic background helped him get the moves down. Additionally, he describes what it was like to film on location at the 2001 Odyssey Disco in Brooklyn. He recalls how they had professional dancers working with them in the disco scenes to make everything look more realistic. His memories of working with Fran Drescher for just one day on set and his experience collaborating with the stunt team and fight coordinator Jimmy Gambina for the climactic gang fight scene they shot. How unprepared the cast was for how massive the film would become. He shares his thoughts about the sequel, “Stayin’ Alive,” the Broadway adaptation of "Saturday Night Fever,” how things changed for him after Fever came out, and his transition to Hollywood. How he began doing voice-over work to make ends meet, which he is grateful that it has blossomed into a long and successful career for him.  And how he played an instrumental role in creating the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and expresses pride in its establishment. He also takes pride in the longevity of the film “Saturday Night Fever” and how it has touched so many lives around the world. PAUL PAPE   Paul Pape began his professional acting career in New York as one of the original members of the Collonades Theater Lab (a repertory company). He did his apprenticeship with CTL, that also featured future notables Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Jeff Goldblum, Kathleen Noone, Peter Scolari and Michael O'Keefe. After going Off-Broadway to appear with Kim Hunter in "The Cherry Orchard", Paul was cast to co-star as 'Double J' opposite John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever". He still appears on-camera and on-stage, while also enjoying a successful voice-over career with 8000+ credits. Paul's voice has been heard in virtually every form of media - including commercials, animation, ADR, narration, promos, video games and trailers. In addition, he has been a prominent voice for four Presidential campaigns, as well as hundreds of Senatorial, Congressional and Gubernatorial races for Democratic candidates. As a producer, Paul founded Red Wall Productions in 1998. The company had their offices at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood and produced several short films, which garnered fourteen film festival nominations - resulting in awards for producing, directing, editing and writing. A member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Paul served on the Board of Directors of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation for eight years, where he is a Founder of the Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab - a half million-dollar facility dedicated to the development and success of voice-over artists.
