Welcome to the Tweed Trends Podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl! And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Good morning, guys. Hey, with everything that's going on in the world today, you know, I want to focus on protecting ourselves and our children on today's episode. So, let's get started.
So the first topic that I saw, where people were trying to protect students, children, it was education secretary Betsy DeVos. Basically, what they're saying is that she's examining a plan that would allow states to use federal funding to purchase guns for educators, as well as gun training for educators. Well, as much as I think that teachers should know how to use a gun and should be trained with it, when I was in school, in high school, we had hunter safety. So, all of the kids knew how to properly handle a gun, a rifle in particular, but that's because I'm from the south, and there's a lot of hunters down there.
So, they figure why not teach them in the schools, so when they get home, they know what to do with those rifles when they see them. But anyway, that's what sides the point. There is a student support in academic enrichment grant program that does not specifically say that you cannot buy weapons with the money. And you know, this is why there are some instructions that seem so stupid when it says, don't put the wire for the electrical cord in your mouth.
Duh. But you have to put stipulations in things like that, because then you get people wanting to take money that's supposed to support and enrich the students academically, and instead they want to put that money towards guns. Now, as a teacher, I know some of the people that I worked with. And to imagine some of them with a gun, yeah, that's a disaster waiting to happen.
I feel like more people are going to get killed if teachers have guns. You know, unless we're turning teachers into sharpshooters, leave the guns out of the teachers' hands and keep them in the hands of those people that know how to use them properly. Not only do we want to protect our children in school, we want to protect them outside of school as well, because in the wake of the molly-tivit situation where she was abducted and murdered, we should really keep in mind that really any one of us could become a victim. So here it goes.
I've got two items that I ran across that I think would be really great self-defense items to have just on the fly. The first one is called Dad, and I think that's really cool, because of course your dad is supposed to protect you, right? But Dad stands for a defense alert device. Now, this device has four different little mechanisms.
It works as a pepper spray. It has a hand strap that if you were to open your hand, it's not going to just fall out of your hand, which is great. And then it also has a flashlight and Bluetooth and GPS. So whoever you have set up in your phone to go with this device, if you set off the alarm, then it's going to contact your people and be like, hey, I need help.
I'm in trouble. And it kind of gets the ball rolling way faster than it would for someone to realize you're missing and then get the clock rolling. Now that costs about $130, but if $130 is what it costs to save your life, you know what? That's $130 well spent.
Another one, if you're on a budget right now, like you can't afford $130, how about about $35 for this item called the Tiger Lady Self Defense Claw? And it's just that. It's a claw. Basically, you squeeze it in your hand and the claws come out and you actually scratch the person with it that attacks you.
So like you scratch them and you haul tail. You turn around and you run as fast as you can. You get away from that person. And nine times I've said if you scratch them in a good place like across the face or something, they're not necessarily going to bounce right back to come right at you.
But the cool thing too about the claw is that it collects DNA. So you run straight to the police and be like, let me try to attack me. I got their DNA under my claw. Come get it.
Let's do this. You know, you get the person. Another cool thing about the claw is that a portion of the proceeds go to a nonprofit committed to putting an end to violence against women. Pretty, super duper awesome.
One more awesome thing about this thing. You know, I know you're like, can't be another thing. Yes, you can get them in multi-packs. So you can get a pack of four and then send them to all your peeps.
Now everybody that you want to make sure that they're safe, especially those people that you know live by themselves or tend to be by themselves a lot. I'm about to buy four of them and send them to my girlfriends. But I'll put the links to those in Twitter so you can find them. Check them out for yourselves.
You can get discounts on them too. Ten percent off of that and fifteen percent off of Tiger Lady. And last but not least is the fact that we have so many missing children out there. Yes, we want to keep them safe.
Yes, we want to do all that we can. But there comes sometimes that people take them and we cannot seem to find them. According to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, there are roughly 800,000 children each year reported missing. That's about 2,000 children a day.
And I can't imagine it. I remember one time going to the store and my daughter hid in the clothes rack and I couldn't find her. And I was falling apart literally in the store and I'm calling her and she wouldn't answer. And when she finally did come out she's all smiling thinking it's funny.
And I snatched her up and we left that store. I couldn't anymore because just the idea, just those few seconds of her being out of my sight and I don't know where she is. And then to think that there are people who for decades, their children have been missing. And nobody's found them.
I'm sorry. I feel like I'm about to cry. But I can't imagine the pain that they go through every morning when they wake up and their child still hasn't come home. So I said all of this to say I don't understand why we have a gazillion sports channels on TV.
And we instead, why don't we have a channel devoted to missing children and trying to find them? Or better yet even just a show, a regular show. We used to have America's most wanted and people love that. Or what about cops?
Why don't we have a show dedicated to finding these missing children? I don't understand. Maybe missing children that doesn't bring in the money. People aren't wanting that.
But you know what? I know a bunch of people that do want that in those families whose children are missing. And if you have kids, try to imagine that one day you wake up and your kid is gone. And then I don't know maybe that will bring it in and have other people wanting.
So that's what I'm going to start lobbying for. I don't know who I need to talk to. Hey Oprah, are you out there? Can we get a show for missing children?

Before I go, just to let you know today is Cheap Flight Day. What? You never heard of it? Well, on August 23rd, it just happens to be the day that airlines tend to lower their fares because the bulk of summer travel is over and they're trying to reel in some more customers.
So why not check out some flights today? That's what I'm about to do. And I'll see you tomorrow.
