You can't personally carry every initiative into every building or classroom. Your leadership may be most visible in the structures that allow other people to execute the work.As you prepare your own superintendent interview responses, listen for the space between two parts of your answer:“We decided…”and“As a result…”What happened in between?What structure did you create? How were responsibilities established? What allowed the work to move beyond the superintendent's office? How did leadership know whether implementation was actually occurring?You don't need to turn your answer into a project-management report. The board needs enough evidence to understand how your leadership contributed to the organization's ability to execute.The result tells the board that something worked.Execution evidence helps it understand why your leadership had something to do with it.Most superintendent candidates prepare for interview questions. School boards are evaluating something else.
