Welcome to Episode 99 of Laser Insights China!This episode of Laser Insights China examines how an existing TRUMPF CO2 laser cutting machine can be upgraded with modern fiber laser technology. The retrofit keeps the robust mechanical platform and original machine functions where practical, while adding a fiber cutting head, new control interfaces, optical monitoring, autofocus control, and remote diagnostics.Key points:l The fiber cutting head shown supports up to 8kW; a different model is required for 12kW. The original TRUMPF height-tracking sensor is transferred to the new assembly.l Real-time monitoring checks lens temperatures. If contamination or damage causes overheating, an alarm passes through the retrofit controller to the TRUMPF system, which stops the machine.l The main retrofit controller receives piercing and cutting signals from the original TRUMPF NCU, then commands autofocus position, power, frequency, duty cycle, and laser enable.l The touchscreen sets the duty cycle for marking, film removal, cutting, and piercing, and provides nozzle-centering tests and manual focus adjustment, especially for oxygen cutting.l A custom ceramic adapter fits double-layer fiber nozzles to the original TRUMPF assembly. An industrial gateway remotely monitors alarms from the cutting head, chiller, and laser source.The larger message is that a CO2-to-fiber retrofit is a complete integration project, not a simple source replacement. Mechanical adaptation, optical protection, signal conversion, safety logic, programming, nozzle alignment, and commissioning must work together. Factory testing does not remove the need for an experienced on-site engineer because TRUMPF models differ.
