Episode CIII - On the Beach (1959)

from Submersion · host Mac East Studios

Week 3 of the Post-Apocalyptic Movie Month takes us back in time to 1959 to On the Beach. Nuclear war has spread deadly radiation all over the world and everywhere on the planet has been completely wiped out with Australia being the only remaining habitable place for now. An American submarine finds its way to Melbourne and is welcomed with open arms. Our Captain, Gregory Peck, will take his new LT, Anthony Perkins, and conduct several missions to investigate radiation levels and a phantom Morse code signal. Meanwhile our Capt. is coming to terms with the death of his family while a new romantic interest, Ava Gardner, vies for his affection. LT's wife, Donna Anderson, and baby are left in Australia and he hopes he's able to return before radiation claims their lives. A scientist, Fred Astaire, tags along for the submarine ride because he's one of the creators of the nuclear device that wiped out life as we know it. Sit back and enjoy as the crew discusses this Academy Award nominated film directed by Stanley Kramer.
