Dr. Kamelamela is a Hawai'ian scientist born and raised on O'ahu. She lives on Hawaii Island in the Hawaiian Islands. Her research has focused on historical and contemporary Native Hawaiian forest plant gathering practices and continues to work on policy that includes community input within forest restoration management. Current projects highlight the importance of Knowledge of Indigenous and Local peoples to adapting in drought environments and growing a sustainable forest for cultural and economic benefit. She likes carnivorous, edible, and ornamental plants. Her favourite beverage is lapsang souchong (smoked black tea) and water.
