Episode Thirty Three - What next for golf in Moore Park?

from Australian Golf Passport · host Scott Warren & Matthew Mollica

The New South Wales Premier Chris Minns yesterday announced that the busy and popular public golf course at Moore Park will be carved up to create more free-form parkland, at the expense of golf holes. It seems like golf is paying the price on the back end of unfettered urban development on the edge of Centennial Park and Moore Park.  As the population of Zetland and surrounding streets rises, the absence of sufficient green space allowance within that development footprint is becoming more obvious. High density residential development during the tenure of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and previous NSW premier Bob Carr now sees current day politicians reach into the golf course to ameliorate the absence of green space allowance within the suburban development footprint. Mike Clayton joins us to discuss the issue, and how similar themes are playing out in other states of Australia.  Mike and Scott propose several possible outcomes for the golf course.  We also urge all those who love golf to engage with the impending public comment period regarding the Moore Park precinct, and the fate of the golf course.   As discussed in this episode – several other podcasts of interest -   State of the Game Episode #128 with Dr Josh Ralston - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/sog-128-digging-deeper-on-saudi-arabia-with-dr-joshua/id497208674?i=1000631324629   The Good-Good Golf Podcast Episode #162 with Karen Lunn of the Australian Golf Industry Council on what golf gives back to the community - https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-good-good-golf-podcast/id1480970735?i=1000631821147   And a link to contribute submissions regarding the fate of Oakleigh golf course in Melbourne, where Sandy Jamieson is fighting local council who seek to re-purpose the small parcel of land on which the course current serves a diverse and sizeable portion of the local community - https://www.monash.vic.gov.au/About-Us/News/Monash-calls-for-feedback-to-shape-future-planning-of-Oakleigh-Golf-Course   Images related to this episode can be found on our Instagram page (@AustralianGolfPassport) and on Twitter (@AusGolfPassport).
