The Academy Award winning film was directed by John McTiernan and stars Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, Sam Neill, James Earl Jones, Tim Curry, Courtney B. Vance, and Stellan Skarsgård. Captain Marko Ramius is given command of the Red October, a new submarine with a silent propulsion system. He plans to take his boat and defect to the United States. He lets his superiors know of his intentions after his journey is underway and the chase is on. The Americans believe that the Red October is a first strike weapon and headed straight for the United States.
