Vamos para o episódio de hoje? //MAU It is an ADJECTIVE and is mainly used to indicate something of poor quality or someone who does bad things, being synonymous with bad and evil. Aquele menino é mau. (That boy is bad). Ana acordou de mau humor hoje. (Ana woke you in a bad humor today.) Ele é um mau aluno. (He is a bad student.) A empresa de gás fez um mau serviço. (The gas company did a bad job.) MASCULINE NOUN (SINGULAR) MAU MASCULINE NOUN (PLURAL) MAUS FEMININE NOUN (SINGULAR) MÁ FEMININE NOUN (PLURAL) MÁS Ela é uma má aluna. (She is a bad student.) Pedro tem uma má fama. (Pedro has a bad reputation.) Aqueles meninos são maus. (Those boys are bad.) Você dá maus exemplos aos seus filhos. (You set bad examples for your children.) Aquelas meninas são más. (Those girls are bad.) Você deve evitar as más companhias. (You must avoid bad company.) // MAL It is an ADVERB mainly used to indicate something done wrongly and incorrectly, being synonymous with not well, wrongly, incorrectly, unsatisfactorily, negatively, improperly, etc. O paciente está se sentindo mal. (The patient is feeling unwell.) Pedro foi mal na prova de matemática. (Pedro did poorly on the math test.) Fumar faz mal à saúde. (Smoking is bad for your health.) Joana se veste mal. (Joana dresses poorly.) Minha vizinha dirige muito mal. (My neighbor drives very badly.) Foi mal. (My bad.) --> It’s important to say that as an adverb, the word mal will not change according to the word being modified. Joana se veste mal. Joana e Carla se vestem mal. Minha vizinha dirige mal. Minhas vizinhas dirigem mal. --> MAL can also be used as a conjunction to introduce an idea of a very short time after. Mal comecei o semestre, e já fui suspenso.
