昔、飛騨の山奥に佐吉という彫り物の上手な男が住んでいました。 腕試しをしようと出かけた尾張の国で、持っていたお金が無くなったので 宿屋の主人に何か彫り物をさせて欲しいと頼み込んで、 立派な大黒様を彫り上げたのですが、 それは大黒柱をくりぬいた木から作ったものだったのです。 （福娘童話集から読んでいます）
