Erika Barber is the Philadelphia Long-term Care Ombudsman Supervisor at Center in the Park, a nationally accredited senior community center located in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood. They provide opportunities for adults age 55+ to get active, engage in the arts, develop new skills, connect with others, and have fun! The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program helps to protect the rights of individuals in long-term care settings. Staff and volunteer ombudsmen visit long-term care facilities, inform residents of their rights, and investigate complaints. Ombudsman services are free and can assist in multiple areas related to residents’ care and residents’ rights. Center in the Park’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for long-term care consumers in Northeast and Northwest Philadelphia. Long-Term Care facilities in Center City, North Central, South, South West, and West Philadelphia are served by the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program at CARIE. Erika joined the show to discuss Center in the Park’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
