The Spanish University Presidents have raised concerns following the removal of 75 studies by Juan Manuel Corchado, the rector of the University of Salamanca, due to fraudulent practices. In a statement, The Conference of Presidents and Presidents of Spanish Universities (CRUE) warned that such actions tarnish the reputation of science in Spain, and could undermine public trust in scientific work. In addition, the CRUE made a call to researchers to maintain thorough ethical conduct in their activities. This scandal also falls into a broader context of malpractices in the dissemination of scientific results and possible irregularities in researchers affiliations to universities in Saudi Arabia.
