Escape Velocity

Today I'm going to unpack a really beautiful concept that I just love. It's called Escape Velocity. In celestial mechanics, "escape velocity" is the minimum speed required for a free non-propelled body to escape the influence of a primary body's gravitational pull - to be able to generate infinite distance from it. Think of a rocket taking off. If it doesn't have enough escape velocity when it takes off from the earth, the rocket will end up not making it through the stratosphere. It will return to Earth because it didn't have enough momentum… What about you?
