Escaped Inmate Recaptured in 72 Hours | Johannesburg News

Edward Khomotso Madiba, a convicted felon serving a 20-year sentence for robbery and kidnapping, escaped from a maximum-security prison in North West early Sunday morning—only to be caught within 72 hours thanks to a tip leading police to a restaurant in Brits. Authorities believe he had accomplices and staged the breakout, but swift action by the national tracing team, law enforcement, and local communities led to his swift recapture. Now back behind bars, Madiba faces new charges for escaping custody—a stark reminder of how critical intelligence and inter-agency cooperation are in high-stakes manhunts.
