Eschatology Series 15: Matthew 24:36 The Discourse Divide?
from The Kingdom Project Podcast · host Marcuss Hall
Quick heads up, verse 35 has not been dealt with since the phrase "heaven and earth" is used and said to pass away. This is an idiom and Marcuss has dealt with it in two previous episodes and there will be more to come in the "Rethinking" sermons. Verse 36 in The Olivet Discourse is said by some to be the dividing line and the escape clause to others. Without any changing of language or heads up of switching from a localized first-century prophecy to a far off distant end of the world event, people debate that Christ is speaking of two different events. To others, even if He isn't, He said He didn't even know when so what's the point? The point is you simply can not divide this section up by chopping it in two. Marcuss will give the arguments that people give but he will also give the argument that makes sense and by using the Bible, compares scripture with scripture to show how Jesus is talking about one single event in history that has already happened.
