Eskom has appealed to communities to stop illegal connections. There is an increasing number of repeated equipment failures in some areas, particularly in Gauteng. These illegal connections have resulted in failure of transformers and mini-substations which has been increased by meter tampering, electricity theft and vandalism of infrastructure.
